Introduction to the Commons

Hello!

My name is Jackie. I work for the CCI Commons. I am the Commons Assistant. I am currently a junior magazine major. My dream job would be to work as a music correspondent for Rolling Stone magazine. I’m originally from New Jersey, but Ohio has become like my second home. I like the color purple, playing the ukuele, driving around in my Jeep and hanging out with my friends. Typical college stuff.

Enough about me though.

What is the CCI Commons anyway? The CCI Commons is a living-learning community for the College of Communications and Information. If you are a Journalism and Mass Communication major, a Visual Communication and Design major or a Communications Studies major, you are part of CCI! We are housed in Olson Hall. Olson hall is THE place to live. It offers housing for both undergraduate and graduate students. You must live here to actually be considered part of the Commons.

Why would you want to? WHY WOULDN’T YOU WANT TO!? Olson Hall is in the center of everything. It is the closest residence hall to all the academic buildings. You also have a lot of great options for places to get food. Olson Hall also has a great computer lab that is accessible to all its residents 24/7. The CCI Commons offers a lot of other perks as well. We have weekly drop-in advising with advisors, free events featuring guest speakers and fun field trips and a mentoring program.

Another great bonus of living in Olson Hall and being part of the Commons is that you get to meet a bunch of people. You are in a building filled with other students who have many of the same interests as you. You’ll have classes together, and it’s an overall great way to start building a professional network. We’re the communications kids, so you know we’re all really social!

Interested in living in the Commons? Once you’ve been accepted to Kent State, request Olson Hall as your first choice when applying for housing and choose CCI Commons as your Residential Learning Community. It’s that simple.

Stay tuned for future Commons blog posts. We’ll cover all of our events, typical semester highs and lows and a bunch of other interesting stuff.

And if this isn’t enough Commons information for you, find us on Facebook and Twitter!
